Net-FM is a name that INSITE has given to its web-based software applications. These applications would be accessible within
your organization with a standard web browser: Space Management, Asset
Management, and Indirect Cost Recovery. Net-FM's Space Management and Asset
Management also includes features for Grant Tracking and Document Tracking.
A new Space Survey module allows space to be verified by the responsible
organization using a browser interface to indicate updates to the relevant space
data.
Note: Visual-FM™, View-FM™ and the ACADLink™ remain
client/server applications.
Some advantages of using the Net-FM web application
include:
Load once – web applications do not need to be
installed on every user’s PC. A user simply uses the standard web browser
already loaded on most PCs. The web application is only load on your
organizations web server. This saves time and the hassle of loading software for
both the user and the IT department.
Open OS – no need to worry about what version of
operating system is in use. A web application can be run over multiple Windows
platforms as well as on Macintosh and UNIX platforms. The standard browser on
any of these platforms should work fine.
Accessibility – a web application can be run from
anywhere you can access your organizations Intranet – allowing for a virtual
office. You could have access from any office within your organization and
possibly from outside or at home depending on what your IT department allows.
Easy and Frequent Updates – a web application
software release does not require all the “packaging” that a client/server
software release would require. This saves development time and allows for
faster and more frequent releases. You can always be working on the latest
version of the software.
Minimal User PC Requirements – a user’s PC does not
have to be the newest or the fastest hardware configuration available. Since
only a browser is required, a modest PC will suffice.
Scalability – anyone within your organization, with
a modest PC, a web browser, and access privileges, can access Net-FM. Anyone
could run his or her own queries and get the information they desire. |
